GRADING RUBRIC FOR 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES

I. TESTING = seventy five (75%) of each student's quarterly grade

A.   Tests constitute fifty percent (50%) of each student's quarterly grade and are administered at least every two weeks along with quarterlies, mid-term, and final examinations.
B.   Quarterly, mid-term, and final examinations constitute twenty five percent (25%) of the fifty percent (50%) of the test segment.
C.   Quizzes constitute twenty-five (25%) of each student's quarterly grade and are administered at least once a week.
D.   Essays and written reports are rated according to the logical development, factual accuracy, and the use of appropriate information to support positions taken.

  1. Discussions are observations about something using facts, reasoning and arguments using detail.
  2. Descriptions illustrate something in words or tell about it.
  3. Showing is to point out or set forth clearly a position or idea by stating it and giving data that supports it.
  4. Explaining is to make plain or understandable with reasons or causes in a logical development or relationship.
  5. Evaluate examines and judges the significance, worth, or condition of something.

II. STUDENT PARTICIPATION = twenty five percent (25%) of each student's quarterly grade

A. Engagement =20%

  1. Completed Homework = 12%
  2. Joins discussions =2%
  3. Works in a group setting =2%
  4. Works individually =2%
  5. Respects opinions =2%

B. Preparedness =3%

  1. Pencils, pens, notebook, textbook

C. Orderliness = 2%

  1. Easily finds and uses materials to work with

QUARTERLIES, MID-TERM, FINAL, AND REGENTS EXAMINATIONS

  1. All students will take first quarter, mid-term, third quarter, and final examinations
  2. All students in Global History and Geography II will take the January Regents
  3. All students in United States History and Government will take the January Regents
  4. Students who pass the January Regents (65-100) will not be required to take the June Regents
  5. Students who fail the January Regents (0-64) will take the June Regents
  6. All students must pass the Regents in order to pass the course
